How far the "stretch" would be depends on a few factors, not the least of which is when it was produced. Since I have no doubts about Alexei's pronounced production date, let's look at what was happening in the Soviet medal world and the "real world" (whatever that is...:cool:).

In the first half of the decade we (the US and the USSR) were still gridlocked in the Cold War especially over Vietnam. The Soviet Union was trying to make new friends - like with Czechoslovakia in 1968. :rolleyes:

It is a steep mountain for a Soviet citizen to climb in order to reach for a Lenin, and logically even a higher reach for a foreigner. The only thing I can see in his favor is that he was a general and could have possibly earned such an award through "battling for socialism/communism" in Yugoslavia, but I doubt it. The reason I doubt it is simply because Moscow came up with several new orders and medals during the late 1960s-early 1970s. And the ones most likely to be given to a foreign military general, in my humble opinion, would be the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1972) or perhaps a medal For Strengthening Military Cooperation (1979). Even Tito himself only got an Order of Victory, one OL and the new Order of the October Revolution (1967) which is the first runner up to an OL.

In short (too late :D), unless it was a belated award from some serious heroics on the Soviet side during the GPW, I just don't think it is very likely that even an above average foreign military man (or woman) would be given an OL, especially when there were so many new awards that would be a better fit, so to speak. And before people start in about the fact that just because it was produced in 1970 doesn't necessarily mean he won it that year, you can relax. What it does mean is that he could not have gotten it before 1970 and as I pointed out above, there were much more suitable and sensible awards to give to a Yugoslavian General by that time.

The entire suspension and ribbon are new replacements that do not fit such a low-serial number Lenin.

The Lenin's gold looks brown.
