Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
From what looks like a drawing in Avers, the first main difference is the missing blue enamel from the sky. This could be from a different, possibly earlier variation, or it is just a imperfect rendering of the original badge (that happens in Avers sometimes).
Still, if you are happy with the badge, then that's what matters.:thumbsup Phillip

Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
I am very happy with the badge (I hope I am, - I did not receive it yet)
I am not very happy with the price :D:mad: I don't blame anybody. It was my decision. I am planning to win Powerball and buy the original anyway :D;) |

Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
Eric,
A bit late, but nevertheless... IMHO, this badge has all the signs of modern day production. Marc |

Eric,
Among other things, enamel (shade, quality...), engraving (details or lack thereof...), patina, gilding, mintmarks, etc. Marc |

Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
I think I found one from the same factory as the badge above. It even has the same screwpost nut. In fact, it's got to be the same seller because even the background is the same material and he wants several hundred $$ for it.:(
Now, if this is real, I'm going to look mighty silly. However, confidence is high that it is a copy - right down to the funny maker's marks on that shiny new reverse. Phillip

Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
Hi Phillip,
The blue and green enamel just doesn't look right to me. Whether those are their real hues or are an artifact of the photograph I guess is open to question. I don't have a lot of early badges in my collection, like a lot of us I cannot afford them, but the ones that I have handled usually have beautiful, subtle shades to the enamel. To me this one doesn't. Simon |

Phillip
ALL BADGES of this seller are copies :thumbsdown They might be good (OK) copies, but where I see the problem, the seller DOES NOT SAY - COPY :thumbsdown  The same time, he does not say it's original. ;) For the original badges his prices are excellent, but for copies are little TOO HIGH |

Re: 5 Years Trade Union Railway Badge
Eric, man do I know exactly what you are saying. I sent him a question about whether they were at least made prior to 1991, and he jumped on that one with a very adamant "Yes!" However, when I asked if they were indeed made prior to 1940, I got no response.:thumbsdown
It's the same with some of these so-called "Best Sellers." I've seen how they work. They will give you anything (including, but not always, free stuff) to keep you from saying anything even "neutral" about them in feedback. Thankfully, my mother raised me with a solid sense of ethics to just avoid them rather than put up with bribes after I call them on a fake. When I pointed out a fake to one seller and I offered to send it back, she just put the money I paid back into my Paypal account to keep me from having a legitimate reason to post anything negative. Some people -:screamingmad Phillip
