The question
With several awards for labor distinction to choose for (HSL,
Order of Lenin, Order of the RBL, Medals for valiant and distinguished labor), why create a new set of honors - citations, letters of appreceation, Gramota etc? Some documents are state level documents, other are issued by local bodies. WHo can help? Tal

My understanding was that these gramotas were MUCH lower than any orders or medals. They were issued by military unit (including chasti or regiments), factories, etc. With a large stack of blank gramotas the organization's leaders could issue these "attaboys" anytime they wished.
But someone correct me if I am wrong. Shawn |

Award Gramota for a Banner
Gentlemen,
Found this one in one of my books. It's a 1939 gramota for a Revolutionary Red Banner to the 35th Troitsko-Savsky Artillery Regiment. The banner was awarded as an invitation to mantain constant combat readiness for the defense of the achievements of the Socialist Revolution. Alexei |

Here's what the gramota says:
To the participant of Army sports competition, achieving 3rd place in jumping from a running start (high jump?) with result of II, 30 meters. Rusty.

Tal,
This gramota was issued for re-building of Leningrad just after the blocade - mostly for residential apartment buildings. William |

What is this for a kind of document. Belongs the document to the medal "Best worker of the State Labor Reserve" as shown on the bottom of the document? Who can help?

Alfred,
This is one of those commendation certificates, that the Soviets loved so much. It's not an award document for any medal. The text states: "Issued to Dergunov, Valentin Petrovitch, student of the Arts and Crafts School #42 under a Department of the Labor Reserve Ministry of the USSR, for excellence in professional studies and good behaviour. July 28, 1948". Hope this helps. Alexei |
