Gentlemen,
I really don't think this seal is Russian. It's more likely a store tag or something. Alexei |

Oh yes they are gold all right.
Yes they might be tags to certify the metal content put on by the store owner, do not let that side wind the issue of new variations brought to light. The hangers are gold plated, as well as the rear screwback cap. Just like HSU's Absolutely beautiful medals. As for the tags, I will go back to the antiques shop and ask them. (Do not let this become the issue.) These are two medals I have never seen before, and was only enlightened due to Tal’s initial post. These medals are completely mint. Alexei, have you ever seen these type before? Two Type 3's together, one plated one Gold. Chris |

Yep good thread
Yes Tal, thanks very much
If it had not been for this thread I would have not known about these original issues in Gold, which are in stark contrast to the later ones. Actually I am quite astounded how such a medal developed from such a Type 1 to a mass produced type medal. The type 4 is really nice as well. Perhaps the Order of Lenin eventually covered the original citation as that order started to be issued for good quotas etc. Thus relegating the BDHX. Remembering this thread I thought I would inquire as I could not believe they where taking the Mickey that badly, as prices are quite reasonable This thread has allowed me to acquire two medals, which I believe are quite rare even if they are relatively quite cheap (same price as a Partisan medal) and are artistically appealing. Thanks Tal. By the way, have you seen any books, which cover these, as mine do not mention them. Cheers Chris |

thanks, Chris!
I don't have any book dealing with those medals. The main purpose of this forum is to give and exchange information. I hope in the future we would be able to research those medals, with all variations and types, numbers issued and so on.\\Tal

I am going to do some swag…scientific wild ass guessing.
I think this is more the order they came in. Type 1 marked 39 large sizes (Gold 10k) Type 2 no 39 mark large size (with and with out serial no) Gold 10k Type 3 no 39 mark small size (with and without serial no) Gold 10k Type 4 silver large (with or without S/N) Type 5 copper plated with gold finish (screwback)# Type 6 copper plated with gold finish (pin back) # The older versions have a X across the grill of the tractor, that is why I base the assumption of the screwback T5 being older, also why I think the Silver large T4 came before it with the X on the grill It is Swag on my part. Attached I believe then is a Type 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Pure conjecture. Part of the fun/pain of this game Another reason I believe that the Large Silver medals came before the copper plated versions is that they had serial no's and the copper plated did not. I checked with the antiques shop today and they did not add the tags. They stated that the tags where put on at time of manufacture. I should add or so they believe because there is no evidence to support this and the time lapse of 60 years. I have no doubt however that they have nothing to hide. Who knows for sure in this never-ending search? In all probabilities I believe it was put on at time of manufacture, as their gatherers are sure not going to. My opinion. The medals are in mint condition and have been in storage waiting to be found. Chris |

Interesting, interesting.
I know most of this discussion has been focused on the early, gold, sexy ones, but what about the later ones (such as I described in my long earlier post)? Not sure how or if the newer (1970s?) small bronze-gilt and copper-nickel medals fit into this new framework? Thanks, Ed Haynes |
