swastikas in the banknotes
If you have photos I would like to see them very much!
Swastika is very old symbol which has been used in many cultures and nations. For exemple in Egypt it had known 3000 years B.C. In Europe and Asia swastika had known in the earlier Stone Age, in Sweden in Bronze Age. Swastika had known also in America and Afrika. In Finland the oldest swastikas were used in wooden objects in ancient. So, it has been known all over the world, but I have never knew that swastika has been used in Soviet-Russia! Jussi-Pekka |

Indian origins, swastika in Sanskrit merely means happy, propitious. Still used on Hindu temples as a recurring design motif, which can produce nasty inter-community relations, especially in USA and Germany (authough, legally, Hindus have to be careful with the latter usage, as it is illegal).

Leonid too, of course...
...And later, Leonid Brezhnev was also awarded this order, including the Order of José Martí twice(the equivalent to the Order of Lenin as well as the Sükhbaatar).
The Order of Playa Girón is the equivalent to the October Revolution, according to what cuban friends said to me. Esteban

Vladimir Georgevich Titov
Awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and recipient of the Order of Lenin (1983, 1988). In 1988, the French awarded him the title of Commandeur de la Legion d'Honneur, and in 1990 he and Manarov were awarded the U.S. Harmon Prize -- the first Soviet citizens to win the award -- in recognition of their world endurance record.
From Dec. 21, 1987 to Dec. 28, 1988; he and crewmate Musa Manarov were the first people to spend over 1 year in space. Eddie.

Leonid Brezhnev again!
Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksei Kosugin, both received the Gold Star award of the NVA VC in June, 1980;
Gold Star This simple medal, established on June 6, 1947, is the highest honour conferred by the SRV on both individuals and units. It is equivalent to the Hero of the Soviet Union medal, although it in no way matches the quality or workmanship of its Soviet counterpart. Eddie.

The ongiong thread concerning non Soviet HSU's got me thinking. How many Soviets received "Hero" titles from other nations? I have read that some of the Marshals from WWII received some but was wondering if anyone had any more information? TIA? John |

Hi John,
How many has to be researched but Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev must be one of the favourites to have the most. Apart from his HSU's he also recived the "Hero of Cuba" The poor quality pic (sorry about that) shows him being awarded the "Hero of Czechoslovakia" The "Hero of SRV", "Hero of the MPR" etc. Brezhnev called the meeting "the Congress of victory over the enemies of socialism" after he had been awarded with the Czechoslovak heroes golden star. Eddie.

Soviet recipients of foreign "Hero" titles
Quote:
Thanks Eddie, Maybe I should narrow the topic to start. Apart from the foreign HSU thread, what made me ask this question was seeing that some of the WWII marshals and generals received foreign "Hero" titles. Let's start with them. TIA. John |
