Fake "Medal for Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War"
I searched the forum looking for a thread already open on this medal, but I was unsuccessful. If there is one, I ask the administrators to move this post where appropriate.
I have recently got a bunch of soviet medals, mostly cheap service or anniversary medals which obviously I have 3x overpaid, and one of the most interesting among them is this Medal for Valiant Labor during WW2. I read in the forum that there is no fakes reported for this medal, but nevertheless some non-official strikes are circulating. Frankly, having no idea of what Umalatova is, I prefer to post the medal and get the opinion of the forum. Thank you sergio |

Re: Fake "Medal for Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War"
Sergio,
That looks like a standard T2 medal to me. Is it plated or is it solid copper? Marc |

Re: Fake "Medal for Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War"
Difficult to say, Marc. I do not see stains or scratches showing something with different color below. The ring is greenish at the suspension and looks solid copper. Nevertheless the medal seems to be coated, or painted. I add some scans comparing the medal with a 5 eurocents coin (:idea does it make any sense?)
If it can be of any help, I tried to weight it: 32 grams with the suspension, an I guess about 18g without. Thanks for your valuable opinion. Cheers Sergio Last edited by rocketscientist; 10-04-2008 at 03:06 PM. |

Motherhood medal
Dear forum mebers,
what do you think about this motherhood medal with separately soldered ring. Are there any fakers who replace the ring part of the medal with a separately soldered ring. The suspension is wrong, it´s for the brass one. best regards and thanks Andreas |

Re: Motherhood medal
Beats me if they fake these, but this one looks good to me.
I will say that finding these with the soldered ring or the tongue ring is pretty tough. In my opinion, they are kind of rare. |

Re: Motherhood medal
Andreas,
There are minor die differences between the variations. IMO, the soldering of the ring is not fully up to par, but I think that it is genuine. Marc |

Re: All Other Medals
Hello and welcome.
I doubt there are fakes of the Labor Vet's medals since they awarded around 10 million of them. And getting that and the award booklet for $5 is a good deal! :) And the two Labor badges with cards to the same person are very very nice! Very nice collection so far.

Re: All Other Medals
In fact there are over 39,197,100 of these medals awarded, making it the most awarded medal ever. I have seen these sell with booklet for less than 2 USD on eBay.

Re: All Other Medals
Maybe so, but most certainly not with this type of document. It is the scarcer variety, issued by the Presidium of a Soviet Republic
