Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
This depends very much on the award, the case and the ribbon. If you are offered an award with a modern red plastic case this will add only the value of the case to the award. Many older awards are put in this more modern cases with modern ribbon bars to try and trick the customer out of more money. Having the correct ribbon bar with the correct award adds a trivial value to the pairing. If however you find a "custom made" wooden case for a specific award (such as an early Soviet made Order Of The National Flag 1st 2nd or 3rd Class of which all are different sizes) with the correct variation order and correct period ribbon bar I can see the combined value increasing 20-30%. The common unmarked plastic cases are a rather "universal" case and any award that can fit in it will have been issued in it. When I get my hands on a camera I will do a study on the plastic cases.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Love this guide. :thumbsup
Sorry if this is a repost, here's a cool photo I found on the web. The rightmost elbow in the photo is that of the great leader. Love how the middle guy has orders all the way down to the crotch. :D George |

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Cheers!
Some DPRK items continue to stream onto the market and I will be adjusting some prices downwards. What could be seen as "rare" one day can be offered by the dozen the next. There have been a good number of Orders of DPRK Friendship offered in the last 6 months (over 20 in total) proving that they are not as rare as they were once thought. I have also seen 4 Chongryon Medals for sale in the last month too (One of which was freshly offered from Japan) and 3 DPRK Friendship Medals (one of which sold for 99 cents!). As far as my personal collection now stands I have only 6 Orders/Medals left to collect to complete the set (without counting variations) but there are MANY variations out there (Over 40 of the Order Of The National Flag 3rd Class in my collection alone). When I return to Yorkshire in the new year I will be presenting dozens and dozens of items I have not yet presented to the forum. Hopefully they will help light the way of the collectors. I have seen people pay for 1 item the same I have paid for 80 of the same item.... Not fun for an enthusiast to feel ripped off when they are led to believe they have spent top dollar on a unique item. My personal collection now stands at 493 Titles/Orders, 208 Medals, 191 Badges and dozens of pieces of insignia. Not so much rare but misunderstood. I'd advise anyone thinking about branching into this area of the hobby to have a good read of this DPRK section of the forum before making a purchase. MUCH MUCH more information to come on the subject I can assure all.

Ohohoho! I'm looking forward to you arriving in Yorkshire then!
By the way, do you know what marshalstar-ish award the man to the right on the picture Pobeda posted, is? |

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
All three marshals are wearing marshal's stars but they're insignia and not an award. There have been a good few DPRK marshals over the years too.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Seen photographs yes, a google search would be a good start to find them. Seen or touched a real one? Not yet! The Marshals are of course only marshals because they are so close to the regime (as are their families) and it would be quite a "coup" to find a real one for sale on an open market.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Either you'll have to... I dunno.
Getting your hands on a DPRK Dae Wonsu-star would be impossible nowadays, unless the marshal are so close to Kim Jong-Il that he don't care if they "lose" their star. Or else I think they, and their whole family would be sent to a certain type of "camps". I'd give a lot for such a star... |

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
You may find that at this time you would have to give everything and still not have one. Time will of course change this situation. The way that DPRK items come onto the market is not a happy tale by any means and is somewhat off the topic of this thread. The true cost of someone putting these items into a position where they can be offered is extremely high and the market value does not reflect this in the slightest. If anyone thinks that paying higher prices will benefit the people running the risks in any way is incorrect however as by the time any of us see the DPRK items there are the middlemen. Dealers in China have vast stockpiles that they get from the DPRK for what is almost literally peanuts.
The back story to many items from the DPRK can be so macabre that it would prevent many collectors from ever considering handling them. Information I have pertaining to the "back stories" is also unsuitable for this thread. If the awards could talk!
