Shane,
I am terribly sorry for not responding sooner, somehow I have managed to miss your post :( Well, since my last post things became more complicated, my supplier tells me there fake academy badges made of silver. I guess when buying those badges you should look for genuine patina and genuine wear. Hi Folks
Any Guru's out there that can Id this badge. I cannot find it in any books. It is silver and appears quite old. However the back has a number which looks like a date iv 1976. Having just asked my Russian girlfriend, she says it is for studying politics at an MVD college. The top logo.......Vischee Politichheskoe Uchiliche Great badge. I STRONGLY suspect that this is a fake. I have seen over 12 different MVD Higher Political School badges and they are all end of USSR or post-Soviet fantasy pieces. This one is an attempt to look older. It could be genuine I guess, but what has me REALLY worried is the cheap, flat stamped gerb (Soviet crest). These are common on modern fakes/fantasies but I have never seen one on any Soviet era badge.

Chris,
We were posting at the exact same time yesterday. I was referring to the 1976 dated badge where the gerb is flat and stamped with little detail. The modern one, which I think is a badge from a school for militsia officers appears to be better. Shawn |

But like I say, the badge compares well with others I have. The crest is well made, it shows no cheapo signs of mass production or forgery (but hey they are good). Until I see any more of these floating around I am happy with it. Thank you I appreciate your comments, you know more about MVD badges than I do, that is for sure.
