Thank you for your kind and detailed help, which is unavailable elsewhere. I can assure you it is very much appreciated by myself. Regards Chris |

I have this navy hat badge. It is similar but not quite the same. Can you tell me exactly what I have? I thought when I bought it that it belonged to a post-war submarine Chief of the Boat, or senior enlisted man. This exchange has made me question that.

cap badge...
..is typical naval officers, probably 1960's or so. It is better quality than 1980's, but the rope, anchor, and embroidery are not as high quality as WWII.

One thing that has to be kept in mind is that there is no such thing as a unique submarine item!! The sole excpetion is the submarine service badge, most of which are sadly either fakes or post-Soviet production runs.
The idea of submariner items is a line made by unscrupulous dealers. Even the special clothes often marketed as submariner are general naval issue. You can find the same work clothes in any large ship engine room and the same winter gear for the crew of any northern fleet ship. Shawn |

You are forgetting the cap tally for the Donald duck cap Shawn. But other than that I totally agree.
