Re: Orders of the Great Men
I forgot Albania's Skanderberg.
With the certain personalities and cults surrounding them it is quite surprising there was never ones made for Enver, Leonid and Mr & Mrs Nikolai. If I'm looking at this through the right pair of glasses only the Great Leader Kim had an Order created during their lifetime. I suppose the Order "Brezhnev" would be a five pointed Hero Star made out of Hero Stars with an Order "Victory" in the middle. Who needs flak jackets when your chest is more metal than tunic?

And don't forget the famous project of the Order of Stalin (not the Umalatova one...).

Re: Orders of the Great Men
Most of these "personal" Communist Orders are very much attached to Hero Titles with the exception of the Order Of Kim Il-Sung which is supposed to be something akin to the Order "Victory" (or at least Brezhnev's) - an Order higher than everything else and not connected to any other awards.
Comparing awards of different communist nations can be extremely difficult and subject to speculation. USSR-PRB easy. DPRK-CSSR oh dear.

Re: Orders of the Great Men
The Post-43 Soviet Russian revival is quite an obvious influence on the Bulgarian Orders "For People's Liberty 1941-1944" and "9.IX.1944" but they just depict Botev and Levski rather than actually taking their names from them. Are there other Orders with "National Heroes" on them but retaining an unrelated name?
It can also be noted that on the Bulgarian Order "Aleksandr Nevskij" there was no depiction of him. This Order being a communist "rethink" of the name of the Imperial Order "Saint Aleksandr". Not a similar reason for omission of a portrait as with the Afghan Order. Botev did make State Prize though.

Re: Orders of the Great Men
Difficult to find, but one of the orders from Turkmenistan picturing Saparmurat Niyazov (aka Turkmenbashi).
I did manage to pick up a book depicting all orders/medals while travelling in Turkmenistan a few years ago |
