Re: Medal "For The Defence Of The Caucasus" Document.
I think you've found some fakery there. They look like they have had the good old tea and heat treatment.
Certainly a source to avoid.

Re: Medal "For The Defence Of The Caucasus" Document.
I thought so too given the late issue dates, the numerical proximity of the documents themselves, the same pen/pencil being used for each, the same stamp, and the quite noticeable similarities in the "stain" patterns on both documents.

Bill,
The base document is original and was unissued. Some "clever mind" has "improved" them  Marc |

Marc, that is what I figured as well, value-added "enhancements" notwithstanding. They are even folded similarly. I would have paid as much for the original unissued documents for what these sold for. Pity. . .

Yes, crapola, howver I'm surprised the forger didn't go for the gold and put a 1944 award date with NKVD unit affiliation.

Re: Fake "Defence Of" Campaign Medal Documents.
What do you think about this DoS doc?
IMO I like it because of the lack of obvious fake wear, like on Bill's examples above,, it's obvious real wear; probably completely ripped into four sections and then taped back together with that distinctive white Soviet tape, a nicely faded unit stamp and the seller's other item's that do NOT raise red flags. What makes me question it is the unfaded ink compared to the unit stamp, and the ink color itself; black versus the usual blueish color. Would the '44 date have anything to do with the ink type/color? Speaking of which; a thread on Soviet document ink &/or entries would be an interesting read. Thanks, mates! :thumbsup

Re: Fake "Defence Of" Campaign Medal Documents.
I would suspect it has more to do with the ink (India ink?) used for the very nice handwriting (calligraphy) versus the ink on the pad used for the stamp, apples and oranges. . .
Nice Defense of Stalingrad document, Eric. . . |

Re: Fake "Defence Of" Campaign Medal Documents.
Hello. I have got a Defense of Leningrad medal with award document. The document seems having been mistreated by the former owners but, more than that, it looks of a lower printing quality compared to other awards I had in the past.
I would be pleased to have your opinions on the matter. I have tried to add a link to a large picture of the document, but it simply did not work. I hope that the 100k images I am allowed to post will be sufficient to make your assessment. thanks ciao, sergio |
