Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

The first Red Star is probably original, but somewhat unusual. Better pictures (front and back) would be very helpful though. Same goes for the other awards.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

here is a 4 digit red star.

is it re-numbered or just a fake? (i dont think the mint mark is correct for a 4 digit issue)

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

From first glance it looks like a crude fake. Look at the shield as well as the suspect patina.

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

Another fake:

the star itself seems to be genuine, but the backside has been polished with a rotating tool, then a new screwpost has been soldered to it, a low number has been engraved by hand and chemical patina applied...

Re: Fake Orders of the Red Star

I'm new to collecting, but is the mint mark another "tell" that it is a fake? Lettering looks different than I would have thought. For example, because of the thickness of the lines, the inside portions of the "P" and "B" have very small surface areas compared to other marks I've seen. Looks like small raised dots. Make sense?
