Got together with cheap medals and other small things, I'm pretty sure it is a fake.

Re: Fake Academy Badges

USSR-

It's a decent type 2 silver military academy badge (issued 1954-57). Screwback is correct for the period as well.

I think I understand what you mean, marsino.
The star seems badly cut il the lower part. Is it indication of a fake, or it could be just lack of quality control? :idea

Re: Fake Academy Badges

I haven't been here for a while, and I remember doing a side-by-side comparison of disassembled badges, but in summary:

The arms of red enamel star are off (top ray is too tall, left and right arms shouldn't extend out to or beyond the edge of the badge), the sunburst rays are uneven and count 7 instead of 5, the details in the "gerb" are off (the star is too small, the hammer and sickle are too large, the edges are sharp instead of rounded), the metal borders and edges are rough, and the badge is generally "flat" (the pieces are thinner and lack the contouring that adds depth and a rounded look). Gives an overall impression of "cheap".

The poor quality and widespread availability of this type of badge, ranging from higher military training college to the highest military academy (Voroshilov), makes me think it's a common counterfeit - good for a space filler. That's just my opinion.

Re: Fake Academy Badges

Thank you all, folks, for your comments. It looks cleary a fake. Again, I'm just surprised that somebody wants to counterfeit these items that seem to be very common.
cheers
sergio

Re: Fake Academy Badges

Hi,

this one`s curious - it looks good and heavily worn, but shouldn`t there be written something on it`s front plate

Re: Fake Academy Badges

It's a type 2 badge. So maybe the plate had already been affixed when the regulations changed in 1957, the name of the school had not yet been engraved on the plate . . . which makes it a true transition piece . . .
