See the first post of PAGE 2, the sniper badge has a silvery or nickeled finish. There are more shown on that same page. I was just wondering if anybody has yet seen 'fake' versions of these.

Re: Fake WWII Otlichnik Badges

Here is the one I have a question on. It certainly isn't one of the common batches of fakes (note the triangle above the white ring, not found on the readily available copies) and I haven't seen a nickled fake. It does have a narrower screw post than the wartime GUARDS badges I have but consistent with the ones deemed 'real' in these posts. vertical lines inside the circle under the red enamel. What do you think? Legit? Age? What is its value (need to know how to value it so I can trade it if there is interest).

Meyerse,

It looks good to me. As to price, personally, I would not pay any significant premium for the fact that is is nickel-plated, but to each one his own ;)

Thank you very much for the helpful response. I was near certain it was legitimate but I always defer to the experts. I don't know that it is 'plated', hard to tell, it might just be stamped out of nickel (it has a nickel appearance). I see no 'wearthrough' of the nickle, but then again, it is in great shape. Interestingly, the screw-nut IS clad. Like the west German pfenings with sandwhiched brass or copper tops and bottoms but you could see the steel interior on the edge of the coin. It is my first one of these, but once again, it is harder to tell fakes from fotos, but once you have them in your hands it becomes more apparent.

Is there any way to date the piece given the nickel color, the vertical lines inside the circle (as opposed to dots) covered by the red enamel?

My only thought was to trade it for a class that would go better on display with a TT-33, M91/30-PU or a TP-8 periscope!

Thank you again for the assistance, I don't think this will be my last one.

What about this one? I think it is not very easy to find.

Very true. Gosh, there are so many fakes of this series on eBay now....they far outnumber the originals.

Re: Fake WWII Otlichnik Badges

Could you judge originality from these pics?

They are telling you it is a reproduction.
