Re: Order of Lenin T5V1

Very nice T5....I find the earlier types more attractive for reasons I can't explain; for example your T5 over my T6. I had a T5 with Hero of Labor Star set years ago, so I agree.....i still have one empty hand one one that keeps filling up, and it's not with Lenin Orders

Tony
Sounds like my odd preference for Moscow Mint over Leningrad produced OLs. I can't specifically say why that is.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Be happy you have a Lenin; I don't have even one. :(

Don't feel too out of sorts Eric, I only have a copy myself (and not a very good one by current standards). ;)

Re: Order of Lenin T5V1

This is one of my favorites! Thanks for all the comments but unfortunately with the price of gold these days i will never be able to add another to my collection. I believe at this point in time gold is 1,400 USD a troy ounce. This is one of the problems with precious metals...... I bought this at a time when the price of gold was not a thought in my mind as compared to having a great order.

That is the way it should be, but unfortunately there are some twits that are even melting these down for the metals  - or at least that's what I've heard.

This continues to be interesting considering the price of precious metals in the market. While I buy pieces for my collection for the intrinsic, historical, and aesthetic value to me.....I do find that understanding the content of precious metal in the order gives me a basic material value for the item. Knowing that I can balance what the historical value is in my mind, and keep myself balanced as to what I am willing to pay for the history, or whether I can even afford the material content and the history combined. For me it keeps me grounded in the reality about what something is truly worth in all aspects of collecting.

Agreed....it is a slippery slope we travel when as collectors we are dealing with precious metals. It should be as you say, the primary thought should be having a great order with all its history in your collection. I find, as you do, that the value of the metal, overtakes the value of the medal for those who are not interested in the collecting aspect as much as they are interested in the investment aspect. Maintaining a balance is the difficult thing.
I believe you can have another of the types you seek. When there is one that is meant to be in your collection, it will be there. I found on this forum and other forums I am a member of, as well as in the collecting community, that most, if not all will work something out for you on pricing and/or payments. We have a generous and gracious collecting community....out your wants out there and ask the question when you find one that you want. You'll be surprised how many will help you.

Two weeks ago. It was for a long time (~15 years) in a collection. The seller quite collecting and sold all his awards.
