Re: Fake XX Years Of RKKA
USSR,
Please post clear, sharp pictures if you want opinions. The suspension and the screwplate are not original. Marc |

Re: Fake XX Years Of RKKA
Not the expert here, but my gut says no. The enamel is too "new" for my taste.

Re: Fake XX Years Of RKKA
The details of the rifle and the ground are not really good.
I would not buy it. |

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if the 40th Anniversary of Victory medal awarded to British Servicemen for the Arctic Convoy was sometimes the standard Military type medal, or was it always the "for foreigners" type with the words missing from the top of the reverse? Many Thanks, Tom |

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals
I have only ever seen the "regular" Medal awarded to British Convoy personnel. The "For Foreigners" one was for "friendly" Foreigners.
With the "British" awards it is only the document that is worth anything at all. Always written in Cyrillic and often with phonetic spellings. Smif for example. I think the latest Soviet award to British Sailors I have seen is 21st December 1991.

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals
Thankyou!
Again, the question with no real answer. What's a price realised for the doc? Tom |

Re: Fake Jubilee & Anniversary Medals
All depends on the time, place and seller. Anything for a couple of bob to a score on its own but when in a documented group you can keep going.
Obviously some sellers will list them for outrageous prices only for them never to sell. There are of course fakes out there (filled in blank documents which can be picked up for nothing) and a good bit of caution must be taken. The best place to pick these up is probably around the port of Hull. Most of the convoys started there and were manned by local folk. Hull was of utmost importance in the convoys. I had a Hull relative on an Anti-Aircraft gun (in the still shrapnel damaged cemetery) for the whole duration of the blitz and a Goole relative that managed to dodge the convoy only to find himself on Omaha Beach without a weapon.

It seems that there was no hard and fast rule. I have seen a few of the foreigner version medals awarded to British servicemen, but the majority seems to be of the regular type. I was once shown a set (medal + doc) picked up for a song on Portobello. Marc |
