Re: Unofficial Chernobyl Awards.
Was preparing this medal for the auction and came across this bit, in Russian, from the Petersburg' Collector, 3(38), p3. Have not read the original magazine myself, copying a quote. Basically it says that the medal was made mostly for the vets of MVD and special force who took part in the Chernobyl clean-up. About 600 medals were made, 100 of them, for special merits, silver-plated.
The medal is mint-marked on the ring. "..... Sergei |

Sergei
I don't know how many of these medals were issued, but MUCH MORE than 600 pieces. I would say 60000 :) This medal is very easy to find and the price $20-25. Medal with 600 issued is very difficult to find and the price is much higher. |

Re: Unofficial Chernobyl Awards.
I want the rarest variation. Uranium plated. Never mind the shiny gold or silver plate I want one that glows in the dark.

Re: Unofficial Chernobyl Awards.
Hello
I have had this Chernobyl badge in my possession for a while and was wondering if anyone would know who it was awarded to. I believe it was assigned to the liquidators but that is about all I know about it. Thanks |

Re: Unofficial Chernobyl Awards.
Because of the participation of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Army in liquidation of the consequences of catastrophe at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant, and because of their hard work and self-sacrifice was preserved health of hundreds of thousands of people.
Here are few examples. The Military- Veterinary service of Byelorussian, Kiev and Carpathian military districts in the first stages of liquidation the consequences of catastrophe ensured radiation safety of all food products and production. After the accident at Chernobyl Nuclear Plant in 1986 the military units of the radiation, chemical and biological protection of Volga and Ural military districts were one of the first that arrived in the region of radioactive contamination for liquidation of the consequences of extraordinary situation. The brigade of chemical defense arrived from the Leningrad military district attempted to conduct deactivation. Many soldiers and officers, for whom it was in prospect for a long time to guard the object, obtained high radiation doses. Acer, your badge is for Liquidators of Chernobyl Accident of Volga Military District (PriVO) Here is few more similar badges awarded to other Military Districts 1. Red Banner Kiev Military District 2. Red Banner Siberia Military District 3. Order of Lenin Leningrad Military District Last edited by ericlida; 11-11-2012 at 01:04 AM. |
