Re: Identify the cap?

about the chinstrap , it sure sounds like the wrong buttons.

about the chinstrap it self, isn't it so that general parade caps had the leather embroidered on from at least 1955 and on.
the chinstrap on it now is the officer or general normal wear one.

Re: Identify the cap?

Ser-g,

Yes, you are correct...looks like the chin strap and buttons were both replaced! Too bad, its a nice cap!

Re: Identify the cap?

Here is a cap of the same model that I had in my collection earlier. Notice the chinstrap and the side buttons - as well as the magenta color.

For the record, this cap was "lost" in French post/customs.

While the buttons may be possible to find, I am afraid that the only way to get a chinstrap is to slaughter another cap :(

Re: Identify the cap?

Marc, DougD and Tretor :)
Thank you very much for your information. Even my field is not the hats ( I collect mostly orders-medals-edgged weapons and patches-badges from Special Forces and Paras) I believe the buttons have been replaced, because they look like the sleeve buttons from a Greatcoat and they are gold plated aluminium. Those buttons are attached to the hat with white thread and you can see next to the white thread are still black shred threads (as some body had relocate the buttons in one stage).
Thank you very much for the information about the Chin-strap!!!!:thumbsup
The colour of the band and the piping is acually magenta and not red.
About the date now, I had to remove one of those but the stamp is not the perfect one and it is very hard to see any dates or letters. Just look at the picture
Buttons.jpg
I apologize for the up-side-down hammer and sickle, I had no other choise and the picture has to be done as it is. The date looks like 63 or 83, really it is very hard to say. I tryied to have a "go" putting a light on a different angles, but it was pointless.

Thank you VERY MUCH!!!!:)

Re: Identify the cap?

Yannis/Snameni,

the buttons are wrong for the cap, and so is the chinstrap (as stated before). The correct ones should have the state seal of USSR. Either the correct chinstrap was lost and replaced with whatever was on hand - or someone saw an opportunity to make 10 bucks extra and changed the band+buttons - and sold separately.

Re: Identify the cap?

It´ll be pretty hard to find a proper chinstrap for your cap, and if you don´t find one, just leave as it is. It looks nice after all. You may be more lucky with the buttons though. They show up more often than chinstrap.

Cheers:)

Re: Identify the cap?

Thank you very much for your information!!!!

I agree with Esteban cool, the hat looks nice even has incorrect chinstarp and buttons and I will leave it "in peace" at this stage. Maybe it is very hard to find correct chinstrap and buttons, but this is the beauty of collecting. You never know what you will find the next day!!!!!
Thanks Jeffrey for your compliments!!! I use one old Sony 717 (is my favorite one) with a Giottos SuperMacro Lens and one Sony HVL-RLAM ring light. I just bought one Sony A 300, but I haven't use it yet!!!! The actuall size of the button is 18.50 cm (on the picture, using the SuperMacro Lens ). After taking the photos I have a play with the Photoshop, A GREAT PROGRAM!!!!
If some body wants any help about Photoshop, please free to ask me!!!!!

All the very best!!!!
