I could give it a try, but I doubt there will be anyone competent enough to answer...

I've rummaged around and found these in about every issue of Manion's 1995-96 "Japanese and Other Countries Militaria" catalogs in (always) ORS, OPW, ORB, OL sets of 4, being hopefully offered at around $60 the set...

Yet a place called "D & D Collectibles" (specialized in DDR mass-surplus and new Russian Federation stuff) in Ringwood, New Jersey at the same period had them for $3 each.

I can scan the XEROXED D & D Catalog, but they and the microscopic Manion's illustrations don't add anything-- other than when these seem to have surfaced.

No news from them, so I went to the local medal museum... Should have done it earlier...
The miniatures in Poland were being made in private engarvers' workshops. That is why it is hard to find 2 looking exactly the same. This is because possesion of the mini's was not obligatory.
The presence of the mint's screwplate has also it's explanation: simply not all workshops had their own plates with name and adress on it (in fact from 50's to 80's most of them didn't have), they used the ones made by the mint.

It is currently almost impossible to find out which workshop made the miniatures in question, unless the workshop still works and keeps the records on all the clients from the past...

Some more mini-me's (but not as mini) with some of their bigger "fathers".

These ARE of Soviet manufacture from trademarks on the reverse of some.

Desantnik,

I believe the "shiny" Lenin is from the line of pins made after 1991 for tourists. At least it looks like one.

I have seen those RB's for sale in Kiev. They are either theater props or, more likely, souvenires for turists made after 1991

Dear Guys,

Due to my findings I want to refresh Paul`s topic.
Last week i have bought on local internet auction a miniature of Medal of Victory Over Germany.
After reading this thread i intended to wrote to Polish National Mint ( Mennica Narodowa)
I want to ask them if it is possible that Polish recipient of Soviet medal/order receive a miniature from Polish Mint.

After three days I have replay ( I try to translate, but as you already notice me English is not my strong side:mad:)

"Dear Mr,
we are sorry be we didn't find any document confirming that after WWII Polish Mint manufacture awards for other countries.
Our ex-custodian said that is less possible, but he admits he doesn't have enough knowledge about topic.
The Warsaw Mint start to limited activity in the middle of 1946 but for example
until 1953, even polish coins were made abroad.
Best regards"

Now I don't know what to think, medal looks genuine, not like cheap souvenirs for tourists, the suspension is similar to those made by Polish Mint (see pic)
Also the colour of enamel ribbon is correct.

So there is few question about this pice of metal:

1. If not manufactured in Poland, so maybe other country ( CCCP, Jugoslavia, CzechoSlovakia) made this for Polish Recipients
2. Or mayby is just not for Polish
3. Or this is a common junk:) and my efforts is waste of time:laff

I plan to ask The Mint few more question, about what should I ask?

Best Regards
Krzysztof

.....and with bigger brothers.

Re: Mini-Me

Krzysztof,

Thanks for the update.

The medallion is very crude, so I don't think it could've been made by the Soviets. Do you know if any factories in Poland, other than the mint, made any copies?
