Communist Symbols banned ?

I think banning symbols such as the Nazi symbols , is just eliminating a part of history. I do think we should not allow any groups or parties use the symbol and ban it for that purpose.

But not ban the symbol out right. We may not like what some symbols represented but it is history that we should not forget or hide away.

Why not ban Christian cross for that matter? Inquisition in Europe and conquest of America killed no less people than Nazi/Soviet regimes (on a realtive basis, comparing number of victims to the world population at the time).

Sad truth is that in case new evil emeges in the world - they'll come up with their own new symbol...

We can hide all symbols in the world, nothing of what has happened in the past would be made undone anyway.

It is not the thread that I find silly, rather this talk in the European Union of banning this or that. History is history, and cannot be erased simply by proscribing symbols, flags, regalia and such. It is only by the open display or remembrance of these symbols, and by recalling their faults and misdeeds, that we can avoid the follies and mistakes of our forefathers.

Capitalism, communism....I'm not much for 'isms. Though I guess technicalities would label me a capitalist.

Anyway, this banning of Soviet militaria reminds me of how in France and Germany, seemingly anything pertaining to WWII is banned. In Germany, Medal of Honor is banned because of, well, the fact that there are nazis. C'mon! It's history! And above all, it's all in the past, right?
