Re: Kim Jong Il has died
Official KCNA report:
Kim Jong Il Passes Away (Urgent) Pyongyang, December 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, passed away from a great mental and physical strain at 08:30 December 17, 2011, on train during a field guidance tour. The WPK Central Committee and Central Military Commission, DPRK National Defence Commission, Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and Cabinet released a notice on Saturday informing the WPK members, servicepersons and all other people of his passing away. And here's the picture of Kim Jong Il's awards. Difficult to see, but best I could get... The case lies like 4-5 meters away from his "bed". |

Re: Kim Jong Il has died
That's the sort of picture we need..... Now if only they had HDTV in the DPRK!
I'll write an analysis of what I can make out in another (less topical) thread.

The person who was running the "Kim Jong Il looking at things" site was quick to establish a sister site! |

Re: Kim Jong Il has died
The name of the documentary which was made inside the DPRK with official approval was "A State Of Mind". Following two young female dancers in their pursuit of theatrical dance perfection in order to perform for their Dear Leader.
As this is an "approved" documentary which was primarily filmed "under supervision" you get a rather strange and sometimes conflicted story of modern day life in Pyong-Yang with food rationing, severe fitness regimes and an installed radio that can not be turned off. Nothing particularly controversial nor spectacular but very much a "must see". It also won two awards at the Pyongyang International Film Festival.

Re: Kim Jong Il has died
The same fellow who made "State of Mind" made a second, equally fascinating documentary called "Crossing the Line." It is about several American soldiers who defected to North Korea. The documentary crew was given complete access to these fellows by the DPRK and it is one of the most fascinating films that I have seen.

Live feed (i think) from DPRK TV with sound. Awfully similar to images of weeping men, women and children when Hitler ehm "moved on". Fascinating. |

Re: Kim Jong Il has died
I personally don't recall ever seeing a nation weeping for Hitler's death... Wasn't the country in too poor of a state with the enemy on and in all sides to mourn?
It does of course big into mind the wild mourning for Kim Il-Sung and to some extent to deaths of Lenin, Stalin and Mao. Princess Diana anyone?

Re: Kim Jong Il has died
I really don't know where you found that link to streaming DPRK state TV but it's now going to be one of my most visited..... The best bits being of course no advertisements and no Christmas themed junk.
Well done indeed!
