50-year Membership Badge - a doc example...
Here's the doc I have in my collection, along with the badge and the small plastic box that the badge comes in. I've seen three in the past year with this box, so now I'm certain it's the correct container.

Would it be possible to have a pic of the back... for my education. I have only seen the "classical" one with the pin, until now... Many thanks. Cheers. Ch. |

Re: Any ideas?
I have spend the last week not getting my macro to work. I can't balance the badge on the scanner either (too small). I guess I will have to read the book again. But in the meantime, it is a one-off most likely self modified by the recipient where the pin which is hooked on to the latch plate has been removed and a screw soldered over the base of the latch plate. So all you see is solder and a screw sticking out like the lump of solder at the base.
You can see the mint mark at the bottom though. |

Badge "50 Years Membership In The Communist Party Of U.S.S.R."
I just got this one today. I cannot believe how small it is!
I'd been wanting one for a while but considering it's size I think I overpaid a little. :o

Re: 50 Years of Membership in the Communist Party
The badge itself is gilded silver and the pin is made from steel. I do not believe there ere any variations and despite its small size it is a very attractive piece. Brezhnev was the first recipient and if you consider that the average party member joined up on their mid twenties it means the recipient would be in his or her 70s by the time they got it. Given the average life expectancy in the Soviet Union it is a scarce and under rated award.

Ever try to open and close the catch on that pin... yeow! Perforated fingertips! Anyway, here's the doc for the pin. Seems a bit low key for the 50th anniversary of one's membership. As you can see, this person joined in 1940, making this award given in 1990. As the pin has already been shown, I'll just show the doc here. First, the cover in it's simplicity:
And the inside, without even an image of Lenin:

Pretty plain document like you say; kind of an anticlimax. Any idea what the quote is in the inside?

Re: 50 Years of Membership in the Communist Party
A couple of years ago I bought a document for one of these (without the actual badge), to a guy who joined the Party as early as 1919:
