Check out this really cool OLGIII, with booklet. This is a first pattern order, with the hammer/sickle being a separate piece.
Also, it has a nice photo in the booklet. What is this man's name? Also, is there anyway to research this one? Has anyone ever seen a grouping that contained both a military and civilian combo the Order of Glory? |

Nikolaj Petrovich Gajbu. You can look on the labour site for ukazes of 24th April 1975 for a clue.
online There are 3 pages of results so not very definitive.

Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory
Hello! The new year brought me this dirty medal. It's my first Labor Glory and I have not a big experience with this order.
I just wondered whether it is worth the cleaning or not... Thanks in advance for your opinions ciao Sergio |

Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory
I don't see any dirt from the picture, just the patina. I'd leave it as is, but if you do want to clean it use warm water and a mild soap, no abrasives.

Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory
Is it just the light or does the hammer & sickle look like gold?

Re: Fake Orders of Labor Glory
It's up to you, but if it was me, I would leave it alone. The patina gives it dignity and grace. It would be like putting a 65 year old granny in a thong...would look fine on a 22 year old Estonian blonde or a Norwegian milkmaid in pigtails, or that bitchin blonde high school teacher in the classic German movie THE BRIDGE. If you clean it up so that it sparkles like new, and if it makes you happy, then do it. But before you polish it up with Brasso, think what a 65 year old granny in a thong would look like, and act accordingly!

Re: Labour Glory.
There is a distinct difference between "cleaning" and "polishing" but I believe it has all been covered - http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...et-awards.html
Nothing wrong with a "wash" but don't go buffing it bald.

Re: Labour Glory.
I have to say that the hammer&sickle looks odd to me, as JensF also noted. I must report that one of the two rivets (the one closest to the center of the medaillon, just above the "22") is in fact just a hole, and the hammer&sickle is free to rotate about the other rivet. It is possible that the original part was lost and then replaced by a golden h&s from an OGPW2?
Going back to the cleaning issue, I think we do not have just patina here, but a greasy deposit as well...and rust! A treat with soap would be beneficial, in my opinion. Unfortunately, having discovered the problem with the rivets, I won't dare to mess in that very region, which BTW is the dirtiest, in order to avoid further damage. ciao Sergio |

Re: Labour Glory.
Sergio, I think the H&S is replaced with a gold one from the OPW. My concern is with the oxidation on the order. Neither silver nor gold have a problem with rust and an original Order of Labour Glory is made of silver...
