Re: Mystery "N2" Red Banner
Phillip,
Sounds like I may not have been clear enough, here ;) What I mean is that ORB #26399 was issued most likely during the first half of 1942, and that ORB2 #26399 was issued in the mid-1950's (by the way, it was of the oval type, not of the round one) - in other terms, we are dealing here with different "classes", the same way that we can find an OPW1 SN 10375 and OPW2 SN 10375 for example. So, to get back to this piece, once again the base is genuine, made at the KMD mint, but the engravings (both SN and N2) are fake. Marc |

My first red banner screw back
Numbered # 74,555 circa 1943 This was a actual combat award until the prestige of the red banner was deluded by long service. Comments are highly desirable!

Re: My first red banner screw back
Nice! Not too much damage and it looks like it might be the original screwplate as well. Good score!

Red banner rare variant
If you can believe this i picked this up at a fleamarket for 26 dollars back in 2006!(when i bought this medal there was no 5 sided suspension so i took a ww2 victory medal and pliers and threw uncle joe in a junk lot and added a new ribbon and presto!)And i have only ever saw one other what do you guys make of this variant?
Order of the Red Banner, Type 3 Var 1 (Strekalov Type 4, Var 1), #97295, circa early to mid 1944 issue. Silver gilt, enamels. Measures 36.8 mm in width, approx. 41 mm in height (from the bottom of the wreath to the top of the banner). This is a distinctively early Type 3 version with deeply "contoured" reverse. The tip of the plow is almost touching the flagpole. Remarkably, the mint mark is omitted: clearly a Mint mistake which can be explained by the kinks in manufacturing process after the recent change in design from the screw back (this piece is one of the first true suspension type Red Banners which came immediately after the "swallow tail" conversion issues). Small maker mark "8" to the reverse of the obverse. Last edited by Art; 10-01-2010 at 06:37 AM. |

Re: Red banner rare variant
RedBanner,
That is a nice one. However, a few things don't seem to make sense in your description: Can you please explain to me what that two-word stamp above the serial number and below the maker's mark is :D Quote:
