Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Thanks for the information. The second Berlin is OK? It looks a little bit strange, if you look on the obverse you can see a thin rim on the left side. Was this caused by stamping or maybe a sign of casting?

Jens,

All your medals are fine, except the last one (the second Vienna).

Thanks Marc, and the Budapest medal with the detailed laurel leaves too?

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Jens,

Sorry, I was talking about the last four (Berlin and Vienna). The Budapest medal is definitely bad.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Ok, thanks again :) So I have to search for a new one. Strange, I bought it more than 10 years ago.

Jens,

Why strange? There were fakes 10 years ago, and even earlier!

I do agree,

the first fake I discovered within my collection was a "For restauration of the black metal industry of the south" - medal... bought in 1996 !

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Thanks to everyone. Yep, the Budapest medal I bought very early too, so I am really impressed by the quality of this fake. Its not cast like the most fakes. I am just glad that it was very cheap.

Re: Fake "Capture of" Campaign Medals

Guys,

I have said for a veeeery long time that quality fakes were produced even before the fall of the Soviet Union

However, urban legends are hard to kill, and you still meet people who will explain that good fakes started appearing only about 10 years ago, and that there were no fakes, or only very primitive ones, before 1992 :laff
