Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
I hope these do not also find their way into the "replica department" aka Shocktrooper.

Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
Soliciting my colleagues collective wisdom and opinions regarding this Black Metallurgy Medal which I believe to be a cast reproduction given the odd pitting and blackening of the base metal. There also appears to be no evidence of any gold wash remaining which is even evident in trace amounts on well worn genuine examples.

Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
More of the reverse and what appear to be "bubbles", which, to my way of thinking, indicate evidence of casting. Please note the areas circled and the curious indentation on the reverse, on the ring, although the suspension and ribbon appear to be genuine. Also note the ridge or "flashing" around the handle of the sickle.

Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
I think you are correct. Overall it is very, very dull.

Yes looks bad. Compare the two blast furnaces.
On the right side is an original. best regards Andreas |

Thank you, gentlemen, for confirming my belief about this medal. The devil is always in the details. . .

I found this one at a local auction site, what do you guys think?
P.S. Sorry for the bad quality pictures :(

Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
I have my doubts about it, bad quality pictures notwithstanding. The lack of any remnants of gold wash, the strange ring and indentation below the ring on the obverse, are a couple qualities that are evident to me. It too appears dull and possibly a cast reproduction, in my opinion. . . These are not particularly rare medals, and good examples are readily available. I could make a shameless plug, but I shall restrain myself.

Re: Fake Restoration, Construction and Development Medals
I agree, the ring is probably most prominent to me. Although I can also plug.....
