Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
True, Will. If these things are emerging in quantity and at low prices (and I don't dispute what CtahhR says), I don't see it. And I'd like to. Very much.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
I wouldn't be surprised if large numbers of unmodified documents start streaming onto the market too.
It certainly feels like there's a little bit of change in the air and with the official release of all "political" prisoners it won't be long until they'll be getting up to what they were before no doubt. There are ALWAYS Soviet made orders for sale the problem is the dealers who have them seem to think they are worth their weight in moondust and also have backlogs of stock which stays well hidden because they really don't want you to see their hand. I have also noticed the "New Jersey Dealer" drop the prices of some of the Soviet produced items up to 45% and they continue to be static stock. If we could research the items or at least knew they could be researched that may inflate some of the items to the prices some dealers want but to date there is no way to research and this is also going on the assumption that #1 the DPRK issued Order #300 with booklet to #300 and #2 the official records still exist. Basically if the Order isn't serial numbered it probably isn't worth the postage. There is also far less demand on the non-Soviet produced items just due to the fact that Soviet collectors want Soviet produced items and how many people collect DPRK just for the sake of DPRK in comparison to those who collect Soviet items? The lowest three DPRK produced Orders (NF3, SH2 and MSH3) are now so commonplace it's not worth paying the postage alone never mind anything else on top. Even at the very top end of DPRK produced Orders (Kim Il-Sung and FI1) which are all numbered can go for as little as two figures now. Having had the "thrill" of adding three Orders Of Kim Il-Sung to the collection and being disappointed by how crudely they are constructed I doubt I will be purchasing another one for more than $25-30 delivered, unless it comes with all the right paperwork.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
You certainly wouldn't envy the stories behind the supply... and you very much have to leave your emotion with your hat and coat at the door. A lot of information will be made more public one day but not for the foreseeable future unfortunately. When the main supply is based in Pyongyang and not the far north of Korea everyone will be able to fill their boots with everything they could dream of.
Some very unscrupulous dealers and now putting Orders and Medals in cases to temporarily inflate the prices whilst they can. DO NOT fall for this trick. The attached picture is what I have to say about the rarity of cases to DPRK awards. This is one of two boxes which are both full and then I have some more knocking about. Cases for everything from Hero Stars to the most frequently seen Commemoratives. The box is a USPS Priority Mail Box about 14" wide and there are smaller cases in the larger cases.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
I well recall going to a military show in the mid to late 1980's. One dealer had a single Soviet Order of the Red Banner of Labor. It was priced at $450 and I regretted not having the funds to purchase it. Five years later you had to push them aside at shows, where they were selling for $15 each. The first Alexander Nevsky that I purchased (low serial number, screw back converted from suspension) was $400. Times change. But that had much to do with
A. The appearance of excellent reference materials on Soviet awards; and B. The creation of a successful middle class in Russia that joined the collecting community. There really does not seem to be much interest in DPRK material even now, relative to most areas of militaria. If the floodgates do open, the prices may indeed drop as predicted, but it's going to be awhile before they recover. In the meantime, my offer of $300 is still open for those Soviet-made awards, guys ! :chuckle |

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Looking through my records.... The last time I saw a soviet produced "Order Of Korean Labour" successfully sell was in mid-2009, it was offered for sale in the USA and sold for $32. I didn't purchase it as it wasn't my "bag" at the time and I also omitted to retain the serial number. Now there's a good price!

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Anyone who has looked for Korean items recently will find that the items are truly haemorrhaging onto the market - with many sellers even giving up the pretence that they are rare and offering items in tens, fifties or hundreds. Be wary still as there has still a LONG way for the prices to fall before they become even nearly reasonable. There are vast stockpiles of DPRK items in Chinese hands as I've said so many times before. I hope no-one out there is still called Thomas!
Whilst there are so many real awards streaming onto the market some fool managed to buy this for $18! 18 cents would be expensive. Such a poor fake of such a common award.

Re: DPRK Prices "How Much To Pay"
Interesting. And, as before, it would be equally interesting to know where you are seeing these things at these prices.
