I just got them in the mail today! :)
Amazing jackets! I had no idea how well constructed they are! Very nice coats.
The MVD coat is definitely not army and its definitely maroon. :)

I guess I'd better start putting medals on them. ;)

A picture of my grandfather...one of the few I have...he has different ranks in some of them (may post them later)...I'm trying to figure out what his medals are.

Welcome to the forum; here he is a Captain in the Soviet Army (in parade uniform), with long service medals. I am sure that someone with more medal knowledge will let you know more about his medals set up.

The medals are 10-, 15-, and 20-year "impeccable" or "irreproachable" (depending who you ask) service medals in increasing order towards the center or down the lapel, whichever way you want to look at it.

The badges on his right side are the 1973 "Winner of the Socialist Competition" and presumably the same thing for 1974 or 1975 next outward because those badges only had the "ribbon" and star in '73, '74 and '75. The badge below those two is the "shock-worker" 9th "Five Year Plan" badge. I'm not entirely sure what these were awarded for, but it was commonly awarded in the MVD ranks and to civilians, as were the Socialist Competition badges. Frankly, this is the first time I've seen a photo of a military man with those on his uniform. But then, I'm sure there will be plenty of people who have seen far more photos than I have that will tell you otherwise (perhaps with pictures, too? Please...) - which is how we learn here.;)

thanks for the welcome and the help, guys, I'll ask my mom exactly what he did...I don't know much about him, he died a few years before I was born but my grandma worked in the MVD, but I don't know much else...anyways, I'll post more pictures. the last is my grandma standing and my grandpa sitting in uniform.

Very interesting photos! I also find it interesting that he chose to wear only the irreproachable service medals and the socialist competition - awards; but on the other hand, he may have considered them to be the only ones of personal interest; the anniversary medals were given to anyone in uniform while those he wore actually represented personal effort.

And, look at the way he carries himself. The body language and the way he wears his uniforms and especially his hats suggests a square peg in a round hole having a good time trying (but not too hard) to fit in. I hope that makes since because it is intended to be a compliment.:D

I'd also like to know what the "three problems" that were "necessary to solve" were to "build communism." (Photo with grandma and grandpa and the writing on the wall behind them.)
