ANZAC,
Early issues were numbered (up to approximately 3500000), later issues were not numbered. It seems to me that you desperately need a copy of Paul McDaniel's book!!! Marc |

I too was being general, just a little more specific. Incidentally, I've got that number beat by a couple hundred. If you want, when I get home I'll get the actual serial number. I can't remember, but I may have published the number in Echoes of War as the highest encountered.
Yes, I did include it in Echoes on pg. 145. It's #3.658.492. |

The brave acts they wanted to specifically reward became so commonplace after 3 some-odd million events that they just decided to stop counting. I guess they were just overwhelmed with numbering Bravery medals and just cut out the labor that was involved with the engraving process. And they then created newer, serial numbered, awards for greater acts of valor to reward the braver than the brave. At least that's my take....

Interesting take Eric, likely you are right though:thumbsup
Having answered that question, my next is.......what would act would have to be conducted to win a bravery medal:confused: I haven't seen any citations on such as yet. I know there is a set of defined actions for the awarding of Glories, is there such for bravery Medals:rolleyes: Brendan:)

Brendan,
All State awards, whether orders or medals, have a statute. In this document, all details about the award itself, the entitelment to it, and the priviledges it confers are given. Here is the short version: The Medal "for Valor" is founded for the rewarding of personal courage and bravery, demonstrated for the protection of the socialist motherland and the performance of military duty. The Medal "for Valor" is awarded to soldiers of the Soviet Army, Navy, Border and Internal troops, and other USSR citizens. The Medal "for Valor" can be awarded to citizens of other countries. The awarding of the Medal "for Valor" rewards acts of personal courage and bravery: * in combat with the enemies of the socialist motherland; * in protecting the state borders of the USSR; * in performing military duty under life-threatening conditions. The Medal "for Valor" is worn on the left chest; when orders and other medals of the USSR are present, is worn after the orders. Marc |

My newest addition
A nice T1V3 in the condition that I prefer.
I'll add some shots shortly of this one and his two comrades.
