OK, we are talking about uniforms...
Now, back on topic, I have seen actual issue and allegedly korean war era uniforms, but no one over the rank of Jr. lieutenant (those who have their collar tabs still on place). Quality, as usual, is very poor. Here´s a nice pic of a senior officer I found in wikipedia the other day. It´s quite large so you can see the uniform in detail. BTW I wonder, have you ever handled a north korean uniform? I have only a collar tabs/shoulderboards set and it matches the low quality of the insignia seen in this pic, but still there is 'something' about those uniforms on ebay that show up that make me stay away from them. The ribbon bar of this Lt. col matches the ones sold by the chinese dealers from time to time on ebay. At least I don´t have too many doubts about their provenance now.

Re: North Korean militaria (uniforms)
No, I like looking over the photos of the higher ranking ones, but never tried to get one in my hands...as you say, it seems most of them (real or not) come out of China. Does anyone know if China makes the North Korean uniforms for NK?

The hat emblem or "cocarde" of the picture seems it´s the plastic version. Before, they were made of brass/enamel. Look what I found. It seems north koreans do have the right to wear their relatives´awards. Look at those way too young Hero Star awardees in the first pic. Daily NK - “Are Medals Decorative Ornaments in North Korea?” Netizens Show Interest I spent a loooooooooong time looking for better pics, so you better watch´em!:D You can see the difference between embroidery thread between the daily service uniform and the parade version. It´s also interesting to see the general´s hat cocarde is embroidered too. Service caps still have the metallic one though. And we can also see what a north korean 'telogreika' looks like, worn by another general. Source: ѹݵ ̷ غϴ - ϸNK

And last but not least, the cute traffic cops who control perhaps the lower amount of traffic in the world.

Re: North Korean militaria (uniforms)
Something very elusive, but clearly indigenous manufacture. I didn't known the name, I have found some other pics and north korean painters are very found of this mg.

Re: North Korean militaria (uniforms)
It puts me quite in mind of the execution of the Romanov family, with their bulletproof diamond laced clothes. Maybe the award manufacturers of the People's Democratic Republic need to be reminded that alloys and enamel won't stop a bullet when the crown falls.

The newest one I found, with Kim´s recently proclaimed successor attending a military parade. I really like the bullion work.

Re: North Korean militaria (uniforms)
Since young Kim was recently made a four star General, I'm interested in seeing a photo of him in uniform to see if any medals and Orders have already been conferred upon him.
However, neither his father nor his grandfather seemed to have been prone to wearing a uniform, let alone any medals. In the case of Kim Il Sung it was usually either a western business suit or a "Mao" suit as Kim Jong Un wears in this photo. Kim Jong Il has, for some time, favored a plain green outfit of his own design, which has a waist-length jacket with short sleeves or long sleeves depending upon the season. |
