It's hard to say. Would you have a scan of the reverse?

Mattei,
It's pretty hard to say something only from this pic, anyway imho it seems ok. It looks like some of mine. However, according to some experts, a good pic of the reverse would certainly help to give you a better opinion. Also, according to some posts I remember reading on this thread it seems that these Badges shouldn't look "gold yellow" (or is that only for ships?!), so... Just my two cents, Dolf |

Matt
These were issued in 1942, with a slightly new variation in 1943. The 1942 version was pinback and the 1943 version was either pinback or screwback. In the 1942 version, there was a hammer and sickle in the star. So we might suppose yours is a 1943 model, but is it an original or a restrike? According to one source (Borisov) the badge should measure 23 X 68mm. I also own one but doubt it's authenticity. Mine measures 22.5 X 67mm and looks too yellow. The badge should be oxidized, whatever that means. Confused yet?

Merci pour les détails Danny.
I didn't know it was so old...It might be expensive as well. For the price I paid mine, I would be really surprised if it was a guenuine. Anyway, I will see when I receive it and will have more details. By the way, I would be interested to get more details about that "Borisov" book. I see references to it everywhere but I don't know anything about the book itself. Is it a comprehensive book or many volumes covering different fields, etc.. Badges from what year to what year are shown? Please PM me link where I can learn more about the book if you have such link. Thanks! Last edited by matteti; 11-27-2005 at 02:05 AM. |

Borisov covers close to 400 badges of the Soviet Armed Forces. It has a good description (in Russian) and the photos are not the best but it is an excellent reference book. There is presently one for sale on e. I will PM you the link.

Laurent, now I have found the badge in the book. It is published in St. Petersburg 2002. It is a small book with a grey cover. With my little russian knowledge, I translate the first part as: Central construction bureau naval technics "Rubin" It contains only soviet and russian submarine badges from 1909 to 2002. It has 185 pages with hundreds of anniversary, jubilee and other submarine badges. But only the observe is shown. regards Andreas |
