Baikal-Amur Railroad

Vikingraider,

It seems to be the ribbon of the Medal for Construction of the Baikal-Amur Railroad.

Very nice set indeed !

What makes you say that Tal? It shows signs of wear and this dealer is from Moscow and pretty reputable too. Always tells me if he is not sure of the authenticity of an item.

Why this fruit salad is fantasy?

1. Too "good looking" - Quite a collection, including a cavalier of
Order for Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the
USSR etc. Too little WW2 medals, unlikely combination of BAM
medal, Order of the badge of honor (mainly CIVILIAN order),
Order of personal courage (same "problem") etc.

2. Irreproachable Service in the Armed Forces of the USSR medals
were introduced in 1958. Even if the veteran was drafted in
1945, he shuold not got the medal for 10 years of for
Irreproachable Service, only the 15 years and 20.

3. Medals for Distinguished Military Service - Higly UNLIKELY (to
be polite...) that a cavalier of Order for Service to the
Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR will have those
medals, which were given to LOW RANKS.

Should I continue?

Firstly..my 100th post... :)

Ok Tal,

From what the dealer told me, the Order of the Badge of Honour was problably won from when military units were employed on famers, etc to reap harvests and so forth.
They would have been awarded civilian orders even though they were military personel. I have seen many construction officers and engineers, road construction troops etc. awarded this medal for their work in civilian fields....

Believe in what you want....

I DIDN'T say that the order of the badge of honour is NOT bestowed on military perssonel. I said that the COMBINATION you got is unrealistic.

Also, I would think that one ribbon is missing - The order of Lenin...don't you think a military service of at least 43 years (If, for the sake of argument he was 18 at 1945, and remember that the Order for Personal Courage was Established 28 December 1988) will give you an order of Lenin?

Alright Tal, calm down mate, don't get lary! :(

The fact that there is no Order of Lenin does make it suspicious and I did question this but apperently the dealer said that this was taken from an actual uniform. As I have said before, I trust this dealer as he is not some desparado trying to make a quick pound. If you think it is a fake then I respect your opinon and to tell you the truth, the abscence of an Order of Lenin does make it a bit sus. The fact is, this bloke who sold it to me is a prtty genuine bloke so I trust him, maybe this is his first mistake...who knows...?

Vikingraider1,

I will have to agree with Tal. I can even accept a Badge of Honor and BAM, but not a missing Lenin and Red Banner "2" in such a combination. The trouble with those sets is that when they are made according to regulations it's very to tell if they are genuine unless they have some wear. The only thing you can do is to use logic.
