Regarding this earlier post late last year... I found an even higher and attributed ORB! I am getting excited. This could be a Cold War piece!!!

This one is on a certain specialty site:

Order of the Red Banner, Type 5, Variation 3, Sub-variation 3 (Strekalov classification), #562923, awarded on 16 October 1957 to Senior Technical Lieutenant Vasiliy Chernyavskiy, airplane senior flight engineer, 250th Guards Bomber Air Regiment.

The serial number of mine is very close to this one(only 2k off).

Re: Red Banner.

16th October 1957 is within the "long service" time period so there is a chance it is for long service.

Re: Red Banner.

Did the theory of this Red Banner actually being meant to have the #360,53, get discounted?

Or was it put down to an earlier piece getting used 5/6 years after the others of the same variation?

Re: Red Banner.

Just received a package with an Order of Red Banner with serial nr 561.653

It's part of a documented group also containing some Mongolian awards. Need to look at it more closely, but suspect it's awarded to a Georgian.

From Echoes of War, the Red Banner Order would appear to be very late 1960's - would it then most likely be long service?

Re: Red Banner.

The long-service award system was abolished in 1957. All Red Banners over approximately 530,000 are "real" awards.

Re: Red Star,0012107,Captain,Icebreaker "I. Stalin",Arctic Rescue 1940

Hi,

I just bought a Red Banner, which was awarded to боцман Александр Иванович Мишин (Boatswain Aleksandr Ivanovich Mischin), who was stationed on the atomic ice breaker "Lenin". Sadly, I am not able to find out, why he was awarded with the order. It`s quite unusual that a military decoration was given to civilian personnel, was`t it!?

With kind regards,

Jens

Boatswain is a naval rating(rank)... are you sure he was a civilian?
