I prefer the "Royal Blue" myself, regardless, can you translate his name for me, please?

Re: Fake Order and Medal booklets
I'm afraid having fallen in the biggest fake group in my career as collector. :o I am now trying to understand whether at least the papers are good or not. I have here an award booklet and two pictures of the recipient soldier. Is the document original? Can somebody find information on the awardee from what is written behind the photos?
My impression is that booklet and pictures have nothing in common, but unfortunately I cannot read russian... Thank you in advance. ciao Sergio |

Re: Fake Order and Medal booklets
Name "Gudimenko Vasilij Filippovich" can be found into podvignaroda database, but only the CS and 2 ORS out of three are recorded. From this documentation, it seems that our guy was born in 1898. If the photos were taken in 1961, Vasilij should have been 63 years old. No sign of grey hair, lucky man.

Fake Order and Medal booklets
Quote:
While I can't speak to the authenticity of the Ordenskaya Knizhka/its entries (as they relate to the two photographs), the names on the photos' reverse sides match the name in the OK. His third ORS could well be documented at podvignaroda - suggest you modify your search to take into account misspellings of his name, wrong date of birth etc. Regards, slava1stclass |

Re: Fake Order and Medal booklets
Thank you slava. This is really a good news. If I look at the most recent citation, which is for a Red Star, it seems to me that the list of previous decorations (point 11) counts already one CS and 2 Red Stars, the second being handwritten with the black ink. Therefore, the citation would be for ORS#3!
Is my understanding correct? |

Re: Fake Order and Medal booklets
Yes,
There are 2 different ORSs and a CSM listed there. |

Fake Order and Medal booklets
Quote:
Yes, you are correct. While no additional identifying information concerning his 2nd ORS is provided e.g., awarding unit and order number, one can assume he was awarded his second ORS in early 1945. You should attempt to find this citation using the techniques I described earlier to confirm this is the case. Regards, slava1stclass |

Re: Fake Order and Medal booklets
Thank you for the comments provided so far. A further question on the pictures, that have been associated to the soldier Vasilij. Looking to the citations, he was Lieutenant when he got the combat service, but was Captain in 1945 when he received the ORS (both of them, according to podvignaroda.ru). I am definitely not an expert in uniforms, but do not recognise anything in Vasilij gimastiorka indicating his rank.
Could you clarify this? ciao sergio |
