Knightcat,
Many thanks for the tip. I imagine you are talking about the big market in the Chaoyang district. As it seems quite big, do you know a precise area to focus on ? One more time, many thanks. Even if there are fakes, I can hope that at least the Memorabilia will be OK... Cheers. Ch. |

Christophe,
The market's location is: Lu Wei Li 18, Pan Jia Yuan Road, Chaoyand district. And it is on the east side of Long Tan park. I also found in a web site which says that you can take the No.63 bus to go to the market from Beijing railway station(east station), or take the No.802 bus from Chang An street. But I don't know whether it is correct as I live in Hongzhou, a beautiful city in east coast of China and have been to Beijing only once when I was ten. Here is a link that shows some pictures about the market: http://www.jsdj.com/luyou/lyzy/bpanjiayuan.htm Sir, can you read Chinese? If so, I can send you a e-map of Beijing city and mark it location from the map. Wish you have a nice trip in China. Davy |

Davy,
Many thanks for your very kind message. I'm more than sure I will have a nice trip in China. I have located where the market is. Many thanks for the link, as it gives a first idea. But, I can't read chinese... so, don't worry about the map. I'll keep you informed of what I find. Cheers. Ch. |

If you are going to be in Hong Kong on the way to the mainland, you can swing by the "cat's market" in Hong Kong. I think the street it is on is called Upper Lascow Row.
There is all kinds of Mao stuff, and some Soviet militaria as well. When I was there about a year ago, there was some interesting stuff. I didn't really know anything about Soviet militaria at the time, but I did pick up an old Chinese pistol belt w/ammo pouchs and a holster for like $20-30. Something interesting to do if you are in Hong Kong--that and drinking Tsingtao. |

Back from Beijing
Hi,
Just an update of my Beijing trip. I visited the Pan Jia Yuan flea market(潘家圆旧货市场). The place is really interesting as a lively and busy place where to meet and see chinese people. There, I did not see any chinese medal at all, but a lot of Mao Memorabilia, some really old, some more recent (copies). Interesting is that you can still find real Mao's era badges in not so bad condition. There are also a lot of books, posters and documents... Nearly none uniforms. I have seen some Soviet medals, but nothing really interesting (Mothers' awards...). I also find for a ridiculous price a not too bad copy of a TR Knight Cross of the Iron Cross. Cheers. Ch. |

ALEX.S visits Berlin and meets Dietrich Herfurth
Guys,
Alex Nechiporuk ( aka ALEX.S on the forum ) recently returned from a trip to Berlin and asked me to post a few pictures of the vendor tables he came across while he was there. Alex also met with Dietrich Herfurth (see first picture), who is probably best known for his infamous price guides: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...light=herfurth Alex, comment as you feel necessary. Looks like alot of tourist type stuff, but some of the more common medals and orders (see closeups of the one of the tables) look authentic. Art

Can Alex confirm if he took those pictures on the 17. Juni Straße. If it is there I think I know from which stand it comes from.
