Nota,
I agree, the missing Lenin was a bit suspicious and I did question this. This is the first time this dealer has let me down, he is normally really good, most of my collection has come from him.
Oh Well you learn by your mistakes. I must admit that my main area of collection is uniforms not medals, the medals I buy are only to compliment the uniforms I have.
This has really spurred me on to study medals in depth as I have not really been an avid collector of medals. The only thing is the more I study a subject the more money that gets spent on it! :D

Another fantasy bar - unlikely combination. At first I thought to point up the "mistakes" etc., but only a novice collector OR a total full will think it is genuine ribbon bar.

What is the score with the medal ribbons listed above. I have seen these in two different varieties, one small and one large sized ribbons. Are they completely fake? Are they copies of how original ribbons would have looked?

Vikingraider1,

You are right, fake is not a very accurate word for them. They are pobably better called "fantasy" bars - the ribbons are original and so are the backings, but they were put together just for sale and never actually belonged to anybody.

The order in which those ribbons were mounted was determined by regulations. Tal's last post is a very good example of this fantasy piece - Virgin Lands Medal, Labor Glory 1st Class, Medal for Preservation of Public Order, Order of the October Revolution, etc. The seller probably has no idea what they are.

Thanks for the reply. The thing that I was wondering about was the fact that both wide and narrow medal ribbons are avaialable now and there seems to be no distiction between the two. Can you shed any light on the matter, whether they are post war fakes or genunine issue items?
Thanks

Vikingraider1,

Both variations get faked - look for genuine wear and proper order.

Christophe:

What's wrong with this bar?

To me this one looks plausible!
