Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
"Excellent" work Greg! You're going to make me break out my set and try to get better photos than the ones I posted years ago.

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Thanks guys! And be assured that if I, by chance, run across an "MGB" or "KGB" Type 1 badge I'll certainly post it here ;-)

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Interesting.
Here are my two. 1st class... 20130110_222424.jpg 20130110_222311.jpg Note that the mint mark in the shield appears to have been polished off. The screws is also very different. |

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
I believe that, while my examples of the badges in question were produced by the MMD, Tommy's were produced by the Pobeda factory (check the mint mark on the tightening wheel). Also, the method used to secure the screw to the piece- without solder or adhesive but, essentially, molding the piece around the screw- was used by Pobeda during that time period. I believe Tommy's examples are fine.

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Here's a doc to go with the badge I showed in post #15. Presented to Gennady Kryshkevich by KGB Lt. Gen. Lavrinenko, Commander of the Western KGB Border Guard District.

G'day Greg and Others
I thought that you might be interested to see my KGB & MVD variant Excellent Border Guard Badges. Thanks for having a look. The KGB and first MVD badges are multi-piece badges which are riveted and pinned respectively. Jim |
