Re: Piercing Yet Another Price Threshold‏

It seems that those rare medals are as difficult to buy as they were to be earned. I mean that only few USSR citizen were awarded that order and now a very low amount of person are able to pay that price for a special order like this one.

Soviet,

Beyond the fact the order is almost one ounce of 950/23 karat gold, there are several other factors at play. Among the most important are:

1) The first class of this order was only awarded for acts of valor accomplished during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). More specifically, from the date of the order's institution in November 1943 until hostilities against Japan ceased in August 1945.

2) It is an exceedingly rare Soviet military valor decoration. It was only awarded some 2,600 times. In reality, even fewer first class awards were actually presented/are available. This is due to the fact the gold first class order was not presented when the recipient was KIA - either as a result of performing the act of valor that resulted in him being awarded the first class order or during combat action thereafter (and before the first class order could be presented).

Re: Piercing Yet Another Price Threshold‏

In actual fact to those who collect and can afford such pieces the question is not price but authenticity. If I could afford such a piece and it was authentic, price would not factor into the purchase.

Out of the 100 plus Glories and Glory groups I have aquired over the years price has never really been an issue. If its authentic or has proof of authenticity via paperwork it becomes even more attractive to add to ones collection.

I must say though the days of me buying every authentic Glory I could lay my hands on are long gone due to the price increases. people get all excited about price increases but really the demand reflects the price increase. The harder the pieces are to find the higher the prices. In reality you will never out bid someone who 'really' wants that piece even if it is over priced.

Just some thoughts

Brendan:)

Stah

Likely to be awarded around May/June 1944.

My bad, I moved Stah's posts to a new thread which he posted under your thread. I got caught up in something else and forgot to post that I moved it.

Re: Glory III, 97062

Sorry about the confusion, I didn't want to start a completely new thread for a simple dating question. That's why I posted my question on an existing Glory thread; namely yours Andrew. :)
