Re: Translation Help
Does look like 11 although a few days late for 20 yrs Victory awards. Is there a date when the document was signed?

Re: Translation Help
Seems to be May 10, on which date a Decree was issued "За мужество и отвагу в борьбе против немецко-фашистских захватчиков в период ВОВ партизан и участников подполья, действовавших в краях, областях и АР РСФСР, на Украине, в Белоруссии, Литве, Молдавии, Латвии и Эстонии" (For courage and bravery displayed during the fighting against the German-fascist invaders during the Great Patriotic War by partisans and members of the underground resistance, who served in the krais, oblasts and autonomous republics of the Russian SFSR, in Ukraine, Byelorussia, Lithuania, Moldavia, Latvia and Estonia). So it's a GPW catch-up award.

Re: Translation Help
I am sure Auke is right, I did not see a specific Ukaz/Decree for mass awardings but those would have been signed off before the anniversary on May 9, I amagine.

Re: Translation Help
Would somebody please be so kind as to translate this name from cursive to non-cursive cryllic? I'd like to try it in the Russian site.
Any possible variations would be appreciated as well. Thanksola in advance.

It's a very very common name. I typed it in, and there are at least 5 pages of results. If you don't have other information, it's going to be nearly impossible to pin down your guy. |

Re: Translation Help
I have encountered some very common names before (Common Russia/Ukrainian/Armenian names) which have returned MANY results. Some times it is possible to find the write person due to them being the only person awarded the award in question or the only one (Going by date of birth primarily and then digging a bit deeper) with that "set" of awards.
If there is an Ivan Ivanov who has a single Red Star and your Booklet has 6 entries that's probably not your man and vice versa. I have been extremely lucky in having an extremely sound source who supplies me with goodies to mainly non-Russians. When you get additional information in documentation (such as Service Booklets and regional stamps) you can narrow down the search even more so. Some times you get some surprises. As the very first documented pair I even bought was to an Armenian named man (as I wanted an Armenian's awards) only for it to turn out he was from the GSSR. Even though he was a "Guards Senior Sergeant, Head Of Machine Gun Unit", both of his awards were for doing the laundry too. I have written an article on finds through "the site" but I doubt anyone will see it.
