Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Great badges, Jim! As you have a Type 1, Variation 2, Sub-variation 1 (MVD) and a Type 1, Variation 3 (KGB) badges, we only need the Type 1, Variation 1 (MGB) badge to complete the set here on the forum.
I just saw a 1949 prototype badge in Rogov's book with "NKVD" in the "egg". Probably won't be getting that one, though ;-)

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
I saw that same one, Greg. And no, I doubt we'll see any more than that photo.:(
Jim, I've been looking for the KGB one for a long time and yours is the first one I've seen not in a reference book. Nice!:thumbsup Phillip

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Found a doc to go with the Excellent Border Guard, 1st Class badge I showed in post#14. While my Russian cursive translation abilities leave much to be desired, I believe the gentleman receiving the award is Sh'tal, Alexander Yulevich, and the gentleman giving the award is named Vertelko. If I am incorrect in this translation, someone please correct.

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
The previous recipient is Aleksandr Jul'evich Schtal' (Александр Юльевич Щталь).
Here is a rather late example 2nd Class with an unusual nut.

Re: Badge "Excellent Border Guard".
Thanks for the translation, CtahhR! Good to see I wasn't off by much.
Very weird nut on that 2nd Class badge... don't believe I've seen one like it. I just keep getting pieces marked by one factory and with the wheel from another factory- pretty usual stuff.

Thanks for your comments. I doubt that we'll see the MGB or the NKVD variants anytime soon. Cheers Jim |

Thanks for the kind words. I also think we'll have to wait a while to see photos of the other variants posted. Cheers Jim |
