Dannybou,
I don't know about a website, but S. Shishkov and M. Muzalevsky, in their book "Orders and Medals of the USSR", publish a list of 296 names (+ 3 units)of holders of the Order of Suvorov - 1st Class, with dates, but without SN. But this list in not complete, as the Order of Suvorov, 1st Class has been awarded 393 times (including 3 units). The book itself is not so easy to find, but is worth the try. Cheers. Ch. |

Suvarov 2nd Class weights observed
The following are weights for badges as numbered with comments that i noted at the time (weight is in grams):
249 - 28.4g - believed to be altered 3rd class Type 1 470 - 30.1 - w/copy of documents 670 - 30.1 733 - 30.2 1103 - 31.0 - slighty high ??? 2098 - 32.0 - weight off ??? IF the standard is 29.2 +/- 1.5 the last two are outside the "official" weight. But a noted expert thought they were good. And need I state that I do not own all of these, I merely weighed them at several different shows. According to document "Content of Precious Metals in Orders, Medals and Decoration badges of the Soviet Union" which appears to be self published or computer printed (I have a xerox of a xoerox) weight content for Suvarov II is: Total 29.2 +/- 1.5 Body of award - Gold - 23.085 +/- 1.045 (material Zl-Sr 950-25)(AuAg 950-25) Silver - .577 +/- 0.028 Disk/Profile - Silver - 3.055 +/- 0.125 (Silver 925) Screw - Silver - 1.212 +/- 0.062 (Silver 925)(variance may be wrong because of bad copy) Rivets - Silver 0.15 +/- 0.03(Silver 99.99) Total of above calculated to add in non-precious metals works out to about 29.06. The rest is the enamel. The variance totalled from above appears to be 1.29. There is a theory that the "official" weight is based on that as of one moment of manufacture and earlier or later badges may have been manufactured to a slightly different standard. |

While browsing a Russian forum I found this fascinating document. The first Ukaz listed, #341, awards the Cambodian King Norodom Suramarit with an Order of Suvorov 1st Class. Ukaz #342 does the same for his son, Prince (later King) Norodom Sihanouk. The text of both decrees mentions building friendly relations with the USSR.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norodom_Suramarit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norodom_Sihanouk This Ukaz awards Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia a Suvorov 1st Class. The citation reads something like (thank you google translator): "Recognizing outstanding achievements in the organization of the heroic struggle of the people of Ethiopia against the fascist aggressors on the side of Allies during the Second World War, marking a significant contribution to the establishment and development of friendly relations and to commemorate a visit to the USSR..." Has anyone ever seen these decrees before? Anyone have additional information? Cheers, :thumbsup Alex |
