Patrik,

You can check exactly how much it costs, Russian Post has an online calculator, then click on "Автоматический тарификатор международных отправлений".

Here is the response from the seller upon my inquiry:

I established very low price on my items(unreal low).
I paid 5$ for packing of your items and delivery them to post office.
I paid 1$ for stamps and envelope.
I think it was very good purchase for you.

I rest my case.

Patrik,

At standard Russian prices, for $5 I'll happily run to the Post Office a few times every day Packing material is also sold quite cheaply by the PO.

Well didn't you know it is a classic if you bought on eBay to put very low prices and high shipping cost? That way you don't pay too much commission to eBay and you get the price you want for your item.

By the way, always ask for shipping cost before buying something. That way you won't be disappointed. Someone already charged me $10 shipping for a medal (I thought he will send it registered), but it only cost him $1.50 shipping. Since then I always ask for shipping quotes, so I don't get any surprise like that.

Well, the postage was set to 3 USD - fine, 3 USD I can pay. But I asked for combined shipping, got no reply. I placed my bids and won and paid for one postage... then the seller contacted me and ask for an additional payment. It is of course OK to charge 6 USD (two postages) IF YOU SEND THE ITEMS SEPARATELY! But in this case, the seller combined the shipping and kept the rest.

Look - 5 USD is not a disaster and won't force me out in the street, but I think it is wrong to do like that. It is common practice though, sadly.

Wow, it's not just in Russia. I purchased something online last week for $33. The seller quoted me a price $11 for shipping to Poland. This when I have received a number of ORS for $3.00 'International Flat Rate'. Complained that $8.00 overcharge is way too much. He lowered it to $7.00 (still too high but I guess I will pay that.

Hey, but be happy. $5.00 extra is nothing compared to one dealer in the states (no one that I know of who is a member here) who state on their website "Our Shipping and Handling fee on ANY shipments outside USA is $35.00, regardless of weight and actual postage."

Yikes!!! Hate to purchase a ribbon from him. That would be ONE EXPENSIVE ribbon!!!

There are better sources for ribbons... it would be funny to order a few decent, nice uniforms from them. Just to see what they say.

Postage overcharging?

Tretov,
Overcharging on postage is everywhere. It seems to too common. It's just what we have to put up with to get the things we want for our collections and the seller knows this.
