Re: Six orders of Red Star!!!!

There are not too many six time Red Star awardees, the other person that comes to mind is Colonel Vasily Silantiev.

Some things never change

I was looking through one of my books of uniforms (as I am fond of doing) and although I've looked at this picture a hundred times, I noticed something for the first time. So the historic question remains: Who did the first "Bunny Ears"? This one dates to 1923 (damn fine uniforms by the way) but did Mathew Brady have a soldier sneak in some bunny ears in his famous battlefield photographs? Did someone keep putting up bunny ears behind the Mona Lisa that DaVinci had to keep painting out?

Re: Some things never change

I can't say who was first, but I can say those are some really interesting uniforms - especially the three guys on the far right (excluding the last chap). They remind me of OGPU uniforms, but then I see secret police everywhere.:D

Latvian / Red Army Officer 1941

Great photo circa 1941 showing a Latvian Army officer who has been absorbed into the Red Army. For a short period the Red Army's Latvian Territorial Corps wore the old Latvian uniforms but with Red Army insignia.

Help identyfying the branch from a fotograph

So, a first post after a looong break.
Here are three pictures of which at least the two of the man in M43 uniform show the same person (I'm not sure about the M35 uniform picture). What's odd is the guy's visor cap. At first I thought he may be a militiaman, especially that his shoulder boards seem to have unusual texture as well, but then there's an obvious diifference in colour between cap's crown and the rest of the uniform. So then VOSO commandant came to my mind, but then again I don's think cap's crown is red. So, is he NKWD man or what?
Thanks in advance
