Novice Red Star question.
I am wondering if anyone could advise me if my deductions are correct please.
The Order of the Red Star was first used as a long service award in 1944, would then an order with a serial number under 301 000 be a nailed on certainty to be a combat award, by which I mean that when I research it I will be rewarded by a boys own tale of heroism :D I apologise if this subject has been covered elsewhere on this site. Cheers. Mike |

Re: Novice Red Star question.
Almost certainly. And probably awarded in Sept of 43!
Go forth and research. :)

Re: Novice Red Star question.
I think long service awarding started in the summer of '43, ending in later '57 (with some stragglers in early '58), didn't it?
I'd still say that the odds are good this is a non-LS award. |

Re: Novice Red Star question.
First recorded "Long Service" award in "Echoes of War" was in November, 1944 and was #848.076. I think you are safe to get it researched.

Re: Novice Red Star question.
That's marvelous chaps, thanks for your advice, I'm also glad I managed to negotiate myself onto the right track...yay! I'm not senile yet :thumbsup
I can feel another question coming on :) I've Googled for the Russian State archive and found this list http://www.iisg.nl/abb/D.php I cant seem to find Podolsk which I believe is the place I need to be. Could anyone shed a ray of light for me as I'm begining to stumble around in the dark.. Cheers. Mike Last edited by Koba64; 04-12-2009 at 05:37 PM. New buy: Order of the Red Star
Hi Guys, I thought that I would share this with you. Bought from a friend this past weekend.
There is a small flake off the enamel at about the 3 o'clock position. I have added the serial number, 1835635, to the forum database. I am guessing this is a 1945-1946 issued award? I should have another Red Star coming next week. :thumbsup Cheers, Ade.

Re: New buy: Order of the Red Star
Congratulations, Ade! Nice RS indeed.
BTW, is that enamel crimson or it looks like that because of the photo effect? |
