Fake Nakhimov Medals

Thanks Tommy! How can you tell? I find it real hard with these medals and trying to learn ;) I made a comparison with an original one. Don't see any differences...

Firstly would be the number of dots around the rim. Also i think a couple of iregularities around Nakhimov himself.

Lets see what Marc and others say though, they know much much more!

Thanks Tommy! The number of dots do different! Apx 120 versus 110 on the original one. Do most/all fakes have too many dots?

I have come over a collection with some better orders and medals, and I hope it is ok to post pictures here for your comments. (Long since I last was active, but I have been busy with other collectibles the last few years...)

Nakhimov medal. #2252. Looks like the hanger i glued back on.

Hi,

I've just purchased this group of items on good faith from a reputable UK seller of militaria and uniforms. They are convinced of the authenticity, but will of course refund if they can be shown to be fakes.

I am currently awaiting delivery, and can post detailed pics in due course, but in the meantime, I wonder if someone could help me out in the following ways:

1. What is the middle naval badge?
2. What are the dimensions and weights of the Nakhimov and Ushakov medal, so I can check that they are at least the right material?

For info the serial number on the Nakhimov is apparently 711.

Mark, welcome to the site. I encourage you to read up and learn more about the hobby prior to such expensive outlays. Fakes of these two rare and expensive medals abound. To better answer your question, please provide pictures of the two medals' reverses and serial numbers - you don't need to photograph the suspensions.

I don't think either the Nakhimov or Ushakov are real. I think probably cast fake.

Heres the Ushakov

No crisp edges, loop looks wierd, surface has creases and imperfecions.

I am not 100% sure, but the middle badge is probably a speciality badge for the MORFLOT sailor.

Whatever the verdict, I suggest bringing your prospective purchases to the table before you lay down cash on them. Especially for the sxpensive and faked medals like Ushi & Nakhi.
