in china, medals and badges have more copys, so if you want buy ,you must think and think.

Fake chinese medals?
I found these for sale from a catalog/store and they had me concerned. They are listed as basically original medals, but they are selling random ones in lots of 10. What do you think? Real? Fake?
I am leaning towards fake. Mike |

Re: Fake chinese medals?
Mike,
Definitely fake! Original Chinese medals don't have this type of polyester ribbon, they are usually made of silk. Also, then are often enameled, not painted. Finally, these have taken a dip in some sort of corrosive spa, just to "age" them a bit. Marc |

Re: Fake chinese medals?
That's what I was afraid of. This is a pretty big name catalog (Smoky Moutain Knife Works). They have a lot of nice knives, as well as some lower quality stuff too. For some reason, they shifted focus on one of their departments and started to carry "antique" pottery, trade beads, these medals, even fossils.
I have received their catalog for years and have been to the store on a couple occasions and found the staff to be quite courtious and knowledgable, but perhaps they were misinformed when they acquired these. Mike |

Chinese medals
Dear Members, these two medals belonged to a Hungarian General - he received them when being in China at the end of the 1950's. Could somebody help me with identification and a price estimation. Thank you!

Re: Chinese medals
The big characters of the case (2nd pic) says "Commemorative award". I assume it´s for the first award you show with the date 1953. More than that I cannot help, sorry :(

Re: Chinese medals
Do you have closer pics of the case and second award? Then I may take a better guess what are they for. You can also ask member claretbaron, he is Chinese and may have a more accurate answer and price reference.
