If there are any official decrees or documents incorporating any of the mentioned People's Republics in "Sphere" into the Soviet Union (or an SSR) they can then go into the "Soviet Republics" section. This is to separate between what is and what is not "Soviet Union" which is the main focus of the forum. Tuva for example was incorporated into the RSFSR on 1st November 1944 but their Order was instituted well before then when it was a separate satellite state.

There will be clearly defining outlines in most threads explaining what is going on that will be clear for all to understand. Civil war and competing for international recognition during the Great War and following Civil War can cloud some areas but that is the nature of history.

Seeing this "on paper" is a different beast to seeing it "in action".

As I also keep stating this will be flexible and if it doesn't work it can and will be changed - or of course revert to how it was.

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

This is getting alltogether out of control. I am tempted to go back and change my vote on altering anything in this section.

Or just make the forum "Soviet only".

I note that my earlier comments were ignored.

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Why so many sections for only a handful of posts each month? It's already a chaos as it is. Most forums expand the number of sections when the quantity of posts makes it useful, but that's definitely not the case here. I'd say remove them all and keep just one subforum for everything non-Soviet.

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Right, since apparently there is a need to dot all the "i", let's take one example concrete example. From memory, Tuva became a part of the RSFSR and the USSR on September 8, 1944.

How do you intend to deal with the following Tuvan awards (effectively, that happens to be all of them)?
. Order of the Republic: last awarded to Khurak-Ool Shalik by Ukaz of the Presidium of the Small Khural of the TAR dated September 26, 1944
. Order of Labor: last awarded to Adyg Salchak and Anay-Ool Donchak by Ukaz of the Presidium of the Small Khural of the TAR dated September 26, 1944
. Medal for Military Excellence: created on June 23, 1944 by Ukaz of the Presidium of the Small Khural of the TAR, and awarded mostly after joining the "Big Brother" (see pics below, especially of the Award document).

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Such trans-period awards can be judged on an item by item basis. Many nations continued awarded the same piece of metal during different administrations. If an award is undocumented it can be seen as an item of the administration that founded it. When an award is documented the awarding body of the award is taken into consideration. Some awards go unchanged in appearance over three administrations. The subforum guidelines politely ask that each award is to be placed in its very own post so misplaced threads can easily be moved to the correct place.

This covers a great deal of nations that went through a transitional period a number too long to list here but as stated before introductory threads to each nation will clear everything up.
Any inaccuracies or omissions from the introductory threads can be reported so the introduction can be corrected.

Remember any Order, Medal, Badge or any other decoration is just a piece of metal (artistic as it may be) until it is awarded and it is of utmost importance as to which body awarded the decoration.

Umalatova awarded Hero Star stolen from the state mint anyone?

That is exactly Ed's and my point. The very same body (usually, in the case that is of interest to us, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of whatever entity) awarded its awards from the time they got to power in their State (basically from 1918 onward) until they stopped awarding these awards.

The approach you are proposing has some merit, but in our case, it will end up being very counterproductive: we are going to find the very same awards in radically different parts of the Forum. Not the best way to keep a tidy and user-friendly environment IMHO.

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Like I've said before, watch it in action and if it doesn't work then there will be reform.

I do keep saying that this is flexible. The subforums will be highly interwoven as is the nature of this beast but they will ALL be covered within the sphere of this forum.

See it as a library, All the books are here, just not all on the same shelf - because if they were it would break. Follow the Dewey decimal code and you'll find what you need. If you don't, ask a librarian and if we don't have it, you can always add it to the selection yourself. The only difference is don't Shhh!

Insert random David Bowie quote here.

Honestly, it is easier not to break (or over-break) things in the first place than to break them and then try to repair them. And you do need a firm grasp on your historical understanding before you start doing some of these arbitrary things.

Please don't be a bull in the history shop.
