Yes, good work everyone. Because of the dedication everyone here has shown, we remain a forum that continues to have a low "signal to noise" ratio. As we continue to grow and bring more and more pure information to light, our knowledge of these awards will grow also.

Art has mentioned the 'signal to noise' ratio. So true. This is THE place to be in if you are a die-hard collector like myself, who feels the urge but lacks the resources, who is late to jump on the bandwagon, who is desperate to hear an expert opinion on a $10 item won on an auction site and who, surprisingly. always gets a fair and balanced assessment on things like a 10 yrs good service medal.
The generosity of the experts participating here is truly unparalleled. Believe me, it never happenned before, it will never happen again. 'Humans' want a return on their expertise. But not on this site. This site has taught me a lot and saved me hundreds if not thousands in monetary terms. This site has taught me a lot more in terms of human values. Any other site could do the same? I doubt it. As some of you will know, I am prone to 'extravagant' opinionation. But not today, not now. This is much bigger. Sergei |

Looks like fewer and fewer people can resist the addiction of collecting!

I think that collecting awards of the former Soviet Union offer a special attraction.
I have been a collector all of my life, gold coins (some over 200 years old), high quality shotguns (doubles), custom knives (one of the finest made in the world is the Randall, made right here in Florida) antique clocks, antique furniture, sports cars, etc.....but nothing compares, in my opinion, to the fascination of Soviet awards. It seems, that among many huge blunders they made over the years, that resulted in suffering and pain to many, they managed to do something very right. Precious metals, serial numbered, amazing intricate designs, extremely high quality. All of these insured unique, collectible items and resulted in a wonderful genre that I have not seen duplicated anywhere else. If they had stuck to their works of award art instead of trying to dominate the world, they might have become the masters of the world that they strived to be.
