Yeah, but it's 6 out 0f 10!!!
Here's the sellers description:
Order of Lenin, Type 1 in sterling with GOZNAK mint mark, with a document, #118 $28000.00 Comes with McDaniel authentication certificate. Issued to Andrey Zhadaev in May 1931. Moderate, even wear throughout, worn out enamel in circle around the portrait and on the letters. Fine to very fine overall: rated 6 out of 10 by Paul McDaniel, a very high condition rating for an item this rare. Includes original screw plate. The order booklet dated 19 September 1944 contains a photo of the recipient. The document is in excellent condition.

Honestly, IMHO if you'll spend that much I'd want a near perfect example...
Rusty.

Just to add that - as far the photo of the Tractor Lenin allows to see it - it does not seem to be any red enamel remaining !!! Neither on the circle nor on the CCCP letters.
I'm wondering who could buy such a piece at such a price ... In my view, the asked price will be sharply reduced by the reality of the transaction. Ch. |

Tractor Lenin was sold on OMSA convention last Saturday.
I think the buyer paid whole asking price. Here's the Tractor #118 sold - before dealer takes the pics away from his web site. |

Lenin
Here're a couple of pics of some unusual engraving styles on a couple of re-issue awards that came with a group I just picked up. The style on the Red Banner of Labor isn't too unusual, but I've never seen one as sloppily done as the engraving on the Lenin! Oy!

Dave,
I think I might have an explanation - both awards are reissues for earlier types. Alexei |
