Alexei,
Here's a picture of the "HSU large document folder". I think you'll understand straight away why I sort of have a problem with it ;) Marc |

New ways to put a group together:
1) first you try to bleach out the serial number with chemical solution 2) when bleaching out fails - you simply tear out piece of award doc with enough digits to match Lenin you acquired separately, 3) then you write in RBL order, making sure the handwriting looks weird enough to pass for 1940-1950s period. Result - you destroyed a document and have "a group" than no one wants to buy. William Last edited by CtahhR; 08-11-2014 at 10:53 AM. |

This is an order book to a group I picked up back in 1998. I purposely am putting up large photos so you can see the job they did on this book. The smudge on the patronymic name was from me testing the ink with water (it bled) shortly after I bought the group. While that's not a 100% rule (I've had 100% right groups with ink that bled) it's a good rule of thumb (sometimes) This book was obviously used before, then bleached. Even with close inspection, you can't see any previous writing. The only obvious issues is the smearing of the "Valid Without Photo" stamp (obviously got slightly bleached) and the purposeful rubbing out of the name on the signature line. I don't like the ink the handwriting is done in the book. All things considered though, if they improved their ink, found a better way to wash out a signature - this book would be nearly perfect. This book was made six years ago. Just imagine what they can make now!!!

HSU Medal Serial Number and Number in Large Book
I need some clarification please. Is the serial number on the HSU Gold Star suppose to match the number written in the lower left hand corner of the large HSU book? It seems to me that I read in this forum a couple years ago, that there is no hard fast rule that the numbers have to match.
Thanks |

No, that doesn't hold true. I have a group that has the document number 900416 (the large HSU doc) and the Gold Star is number 6161. --Dave |

Dave,
Interesting, the first entry in the booklet looks OK to me. Is this correct? Alexei |

I never did compare the research on the Red Star to the number in the order book, so there is a possibility that they bleached out everything but the first entry and then stamped in the HSU statement... That's too bad I never thought of that! --Dave |

Dave,
S/n 1322118 is a bit too high for 1944, but who knows. Alexei |
